Exodus 24 highlights the covenant between God and Israel being formally confirmed at Mount Sinai. After receiving the laws and commandments, Moses shares them with the people, who respond in unity, saying, “All the words which the Lord has said we will do.”
Moses then builds an altar and twelve pillars—symbolizing the twelve tribes of Israel—and offers sacrifices to seal the covenant. He sprinkles the blood of the sacrifices on the altar and the people, signifying a sacred bond between God and His chosen nation.
Moses, Aaron, Nadab, Abihu, and seventy elders ascend the mountain and experience a divine encounter, seeing a vision of God’s glory and eating in His presence—a rare and holy moment of fellowship.
Later, God calls Moses higher up the mountain to receive the stone tablets containing His law, while the cloud of God’s glory covers the mountain for six days.
The chapter teaches the seriousness of covenant relationship with God, the importance of obedience, and the reverence required in approaching His presence. It also foreshadows Christ’s covenant sealed with His own blood, offering believers access to God’s glory through grace.
