🖼 “Why does the enemy keep targeting God’s sons and daughters?” By: Dr. Gladys Dark

✅ Why the enemy can seem “obsessed” with God’s sons and daughters

• Because once someone is born into the family of God (a “son” or “daughter” of God), they now stand in a new identity, position and authority in Christ. The enemy hates that.

• The Bible describes our conflict as not merely against other people, but against spiritual forces. For example, Ephesians 6:12:

“For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness…”

When you choose to walk in your identity in God, you are seen as a “threat” to the enemy’s work.

• Also, the scripture says: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

That implies that resisting him causes action — the enemy doesn’t always just leave you alone.

• The metaphor of spiritual warfare shows that when you are “on mission” (living out your calling in Christ), there is a target on you. The enemy often doesn’t just knock once and go; he keeps striking, trying different angles — because his aim is to discourage, distract, derail.

📖 Biblical references + characters & Jesus

With Jesus

• In Matthew 4:1-11 we see Jesus being tempted by the devil after His baptism and before His ministry. In the temptation narrative:

Jesus says to the tempter: “It is written… ‘You shall not tempt the Lord your God.’” (Matthew 4:7)

That shows even Jesus, the Son of God, experienced intense assault from the enemy.

• Jesus also tells the people: “If Satan drives out Satan, he is divided against himself… how then will his kingdom stand?” (Matthew 12:26)

This shows clearly the enemy recognizes Jesus’ authority and is opposed.

With other biblical characters

• Scriptures like Ephesians 6:12 (mentioned above) show believers in general are engaged in spiritual battle. (connectusfund.org

• Also, 1 Peter 5:8 says:

“Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.”

That “prowling” imagery fits the feeling of persistent attack.

🧭 What this means when you feel attacked/resisted

• Recognize the pattern: If you sense repeated discouragements, distractions, doubts, or attacks when you’re stepping into your calling or trying to walk out what God has for you — it may well be part of spiritual warfare, not just personal failure.

• Know that your identity matters: Because you are a child of God, you have authority in Christ. That means the enemy will try harder because the stakes are higher for him.

• Resist and submit: As per James 4:7 (“Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”) Make submitting to God (prayer, Scripture, worship) your foundation, then actively resist the enemy’s lies.

• Put on your armour: Ephesians 6:10-18 speaks of the “whole armour of God” so we can stand.

• Don’t take attacks as a sign you’re failing: Often these attacks mean you’re doing something significant, something that matters. Instead of taking them as condemnation, see them as opportunities to trust God more deeply.

If you’ve ever wondered Why me? when the attacks feel relentless — you’re not alone.

• The Bible tells us we wrestle not with flesh and blood but with spiritual forces (Ephesians 6:12).

• Even Jesus faced persistent opposition (Matthew 4:1-11).

• Because you are born of God, the enemy sees you as a threat — and he keeps coming.

• But there is hope: “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (James 4:7)

• Put on the full armour of God. Stand firm. Your identity in Christ is your fortress.

Remember: Attacks don’t mean you’re failing — they often mean you’re stepping into what matters.

You are not alone. You are equipped. You are loved. You are a child of the King.
