Bible Study: The Apostolic Mantle – Following Jesus’ Model vs Free Masonry Model. By: Dr. Gladys Dark

1. Jesus Called and Commissioned with Authority, Not Objects

  • Scripture: “And he appointed twelve (whom he also named apostles) so that they might be with him and he might send them out to preach and have authority to cast out demons.” (Mark 3:14–15)

  • When Jesus called the twelve, He didn’t give them a sword or physical symbols. Instead, He gave them His presence, authority, and a mission.

  • Lesson: Apostolic commissioning is rooted in relationship and spiritual authority, not ritual objects.

2. Empowered and Sent in Pairs

  • Scripture: “Calling the Twelve to him, he began to send them out two by two and gave them authority over impure spirits.” (Mark 6:7)

  • Jesus sent them out with delegated authority—to heal, preach, and deliver. Their mantle was the power of the Spirit and the Name of Jesus, not weapons or props.

  • Lesson: True apostolic ministry is practical obedience and Spirit-empowered action.

3. Clear Instructions for Ministry

  • Scripture: “He sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick. He told them: ‘Take nothing for the journey—no staff, no bag, no bread, no money, no extra shirt.’” (Luke 9:2–3)

  • Jesus intentionally sent them without physical backup or ceremonial gear. Their sufficiency was God’s provision, not man’s symbolism.

  • Lesson: Apostolic work relies on faith in God’s supply, not on outward objects of power.

4. Great Commission – The Final Apostolic Charge

  • Scripture: “Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19–20)

  • Jesus gave a global mandate: make disciples, baptize, teach obedience—and promised His presence as their covering.

  • Lesson: The true “mantle” of apostles is the Great Commission and the indwelling Spirit of Christ.

5. Empowered by the Holy Spirit

  • Scripture: “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses…”(Acts 1:8)

  • The apostles were not released into ministry until Pentecost, where the Spirit clothed them with power. That was their mantle—divine power from above, not ritual symbols.

  • Lesson: Any commissioning today must follow this model: Spirit empowerment + kingdom assignment.

Summary & Application

Jesus commissioned His apostles not with swords or rituals, but with authority, teaching, empowerment, and His presence. He gave them:

  • Authority to cast out demons and heal (Mark 3:14–15).

  • Instruction to preach and live simply in faith (Luke 9:2–3).

  • The Great Commission to disciple nations (Matt. 28:19–20).

  • The Holy Spirit as their true mantle of power (Acts 1:8).

Therefore, we should follow His model: commission with prayer (Acts 13:2–3), Word (Ephesians 6:17; Hebrews 4:12), Spirit (Acts 1:8; Zechariah 4:6), and mission (Matthew 28:19–20)—not with symbolic weapons such as swords or other objects and gadgets (Matthew 26:52; 2 Corinthians 10:4) that He and His apostles never used, so as not to err in the Spirit or open ourselves to occultism and improper gates.

  • “When you come into the land that the LORD your God is giving you, you shall not learn to follow the abominable practices of those nations.” (Deuteronomy 18:9–13)

  • “And a number of those who had practiced magic arts brought their books together and burned them in the sight of all. And they counted the value of them and found it came to fifty thousand pieces of silver.” (Acts 19:19)

  • “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit, according to human tradition, according to the elemental spirits of the world, and not according to Christ.” (Colossians 2:8)

  • “Truly, truly, I say to you, he who does not enter the sheepfold by the door but climbs in by another way, that man is a thief and a robber.” (John 10:1

👉 This shows that Jesus is the only true gate (John 10:7–9), and entering ministry through any other “gate” (objects, rituals, occult practices) is illegitimate and dangerous.
