David was repeatedly betrayed by the Ziphites, who reported on his location to murderous King Saul of Israel. In response to this betrayal, David wrote Psalm 54. He calls on God to defeat his enemies for him, and he rejoices in anticipation of his deliverance. He worships God for His faithfulness and for helping him through every trouble.
1 Come with great power, O God, and rescue me! Defend me with your might.
2 Listen to my prayer, O God. Pay attention to my plea.
3 For strangers are attacking me; violent people are trying to kill me. They care nothing for God.
4 But God is my helper. The Lord keeps me alive!
5 May the evil plans of my enemies be turned against them. Do as you promised and put an end to them.
6 I will sacrifice a voluntary offering to you; I will praise your name, O Lord, for it is good.
7 For you have rescued me from my troubles and helped me to triumph over my enemies.
CONTEXT: When David was hiding from King Saul, he was betrayed by the Ziphites twice. In 1 Samuel 23 and 26, the Ziphites reported on David’s location when he was hiding in the wilderness.
• THE ZIPHITES BETRAY DAVID TO SAUL (54:1-7):
◦ When the Ziphites betrayed David, he called to the Lord for help and protection.
◦ King Saul wanted to kill David and the Ziphites were spying on him and revealing his location to the king.
◦ David prayed that he would be delivered from these ruthless and godless men.
◦ David couldn’t trust the people around him, but he knew he could trust in God.
◦ “Behold, God is my helper; the Lord is the upholder of my life” (54:4).
◦ David was confident that God would deal with his enemies and give them what they deserved.
◦ He was ensured of victory and told the Lord he would offer freewill offerings to Him.
Themes to consider:
THEMES:
“You can’t always trust the people around you.”
“The friendship of God is superior to the friendship of any man.”
APPLICATION:
•One of the great blessings of being a follower of God is that He will always be on your side.
•You’ll encounter situations in your life when you can’t trust the people around you, they aren’t interested in your best interest.
•You may not always be able to trust your friends.
•Some people can’t trust their own family.
•But as Christians, Believers, Sons, Disciples, children of the Most HIGH GOD, we always have someone who can be trusted and who promises to watch out for us. Who? GOD, the Lord Jesus and Holy Spirit
•David knew that God would always be his friend, and if he had no friend but God, he would be alright.
•“Greater love has no one than this, that someone lay down his life for his friends” (John 15:13).
•Jesus cares about you so much that HE died for you and now sits on the right hand of the Father, Forever Living to make Intercession for YOU‼️( Hebrew 7:25) If everyone else betrays you and all you have left is JESUS, you have ALL you’ll every need.
REFLECTION
I remember When GOD first taught me when I was a babe in Christ NOT to put my Trust in no man but Trust GOD‼️
Psalm 118:8-9, which states, "It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”
Psalm 146:3 states, "Do not put your trust in princes, in human beings, who cannot save". It cautions against placing faith in mortal leaders or humans for help, as they are ultimately incapable of providing lasting salvation.
Jeremiah 17:5–7 “Cursed is the able-bodied man who puts his trust in earthling man and actually makes flesh his arm, and whose heart turns away from Jehovah himself.” On the other hand, “blessed is the able-bodied man who puts his trust in Jehovah, and whose confidence Jehovah has become.”
Let us not misplace who our trust should truly be in.
In these last couple of years. GOD would continueously take me to a scripture that indicated not to trust in a brother or anyone round me because they would utterly supplant. Not quite understanding but now understanding as I go, it deems to be of a similar concept and principle. And that is to TRUST GOD. Keep my eyes , mind set and stayed and remained on and IN HIM. Because my, yes our Salvation come from the LORD who made heaven and earth. The things that GOD is doing in and through and for us will only be done by his mighty power , thus HE gets ALL the GLORY for HE IS the POWER and the GLORY both NOW and FOREVER ‼️No person or human can get the GLORY for what GOD does.
❤️ Amen Sis. Chrishana!! Yes God gets all the Glory!! It so so much better to put our trust in God and not man. Man will fail you every time but God never fails.🙌🏽
