Psalm 63
Verses 1-3
You are my God, and I seek you earnestly; with my entire being I thirst for you in a land that is dry and parched with no water. Your glory and power have been seen in your sanctuary. Because your love is better than life itself, we will glorify you with our lips.
Verses 4-5
As long as I live, praises I will give to you. I will lift my hands in your name being fully satisfied with the richest food and with the singing my lips will offer you in praise.
Verses 6-8
During the night I watch for you and I remember you as I sleep in my bed. In the shadow of your wings, I sing seeking you, as You are my help. Your right hand upholds me as I cling to You.
Verse 9-11
My enemies who seek to kill me will be destroyed going down to the depts of the earth. They will be given to the wicked whose sword will make them food for the jackals. But I, your king will rejoice in You dear God, glorying in You while the mouths of my lying enemies will be silenced.
Overview and Observation
This Psalm of King David is about the thirst that God has placed inside of each of us for spiritual things. Because we were created in His image, these desires live within us. We thirst for the things that are of God, that keep us connected to God, and keep us chasing after God’s righteousness. It is a psalm that assures us that if we thirst after God, seeking with our whole heart, we will find Him. It further assures us that if we pray and praise unto God our Father, He is faithful to hear and answer our prayers. We thank and praise God for the confidence we have through the word of God that will fill us up and help us to stay faithful toward Him as He is always faithful towards us. God never leaves nor forsakes His children and for this, we are eternally grateful. All honor and glory unto God our Father. Amen.
