Psalms Chapter 83
This chapter reminds us of the unfailing power of God in the midst of troubles. It encourages us to be confident that God is in control, no matter how large the enemy or circumstances seem. The Psalmist (Asaph, a Levite musician and prophet mentioned in 1 Chronicles 6:31-32, 6:39) pleas for the enemy to be defeated, not for victory alone, but to reveal God's power to the world. With every trial, our hope and victory rests in God's sovereign hand.
A Cry to God for Action( Vs 1-4)
*Asaph intensely pleas that God will not be silent in the midst of enemies who plot against them.
*The enemies of Israel unite to completely destroy the nation of Israel, so that its name is forgotten.
The Confederation of Enemies ( Vs 5-8)
*The Psalmist lists the nations teaming up against Israel:
Edom(Descendants of Esau), Ishmaelites(descendants of Ishmael, son of Abraham and Hagar), Moab (Descendants of Moab, son of Lot), Hagrites(Named after Hagar), Gebal(Possibly associated with the city of Byblos), Ammon(Descendants of Ammon, son of Lot), Amalek(Descendants of Amalek, Esau's grandson,)Philistia( Philistines), Tyre(Phoenician city), and Assyria (Mesopotamian empire)
Their goal is to claim God's pastures as theirs.
Supplication for Devine Judgement (Vs 9-12)
*Asaph recalls past victories against Oreb, Zeeb, Zebah, and Zalmunna, appealing to God's proven power.
*Asaph prays for the same to happen to the current adversaries.
Request for a Shameful Defeat (Vs 13-17)
*The Psalmist pleads for God to bring defeat that would humiliate the enemies, comparing them to chaff before the wind, fire in a forest, or flames on a mountainside.
*He wants them to be defeated as well as know the name and power of the Lord, acknowledging His supremacy over all the earth.
Affirmation of Faith (Vs 18)
*Asaph's conclusion is a powerful affirmation of faith which declares that the Lord alone is the most high over all the earth. This affirms God's sovereignty despite the worry of threats.
Observation and Takeaways:
-We can trust God's perfect timing
-We can take our concerns to God in prayer and ask for Him to intervene
-Remembering what God has done for us before can increase our faith to trust Him again during challenges
-God's name is to be glorified as our challenges are resolved

Wow 😮 what an enlightening study and the way it breaks down Israel’s enemies (noting the bloodline’s) foundational ties is powerful!
It encourages me to “know my enemies” and to never underestimate them! Jesus knew who Judas was all along! It also says to me that no matter what, who, or how big or many our enemies are…Our God is greater, stronger, and more powerful than any enemy we may face, albeit financially, physically, professionally, in our families, our ministries or spiritually!
We shall reign Victorious in Him because “Greater is He that are in us than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4)!
Glory be to Almighty God!
AMEN HALLELUJAH!!!!!
